Air Quality In Your House
Air Purifiers A breath of fresh air ? it?s a phrase that means refreshment. A deep breath of fresh air is an excellent pick-me-up that?s quicker and easier than splashing your face with cold water and isn?t likely to leave watermarks on your best silk shirt. So ? inhale deeply and? Yeuch! Instead of a lung full of clean, fresh air, the air is musty and smells of dog hair, and to make things worse, the next-door neighbour has been smoking on the porch and the smoke?s blown straight into your house. To get the most out of a breath of fresh air, an air purifier makes the air in your home or office cleaner and a joy to breathe. An air purifier removes unwanted substances from the air, leaving the oxygen you need easy to breathe. An air purifier is particularly beneficial for those with allergies and/or asthma, as an air purifier can remove the dust mite residues, mould spores and pet hair/skin that often act as triggers for these unpleasant conditions. As an added bonus, because an air purifier catches these things in the air before they can settle as dust, you won?t need to vacuum or dust quite as often (but you will need to empty or maintain the air purifier ? dust doesn?t sleep). Air purifiers are usually powered by electricity (apart from the ?air purifier? plants like spider plants and peace lilies, which do have some effect but aren?t as efficient as a mechanical/electric air purifier). And an air purifier can work in a number of different ways. An air purifier can work by filtration. The air purifier sucks air in and catches the particles of dust, hair and skin inside it, leaving the clean air to pass through. An air purifier that works by filtration can eliminate 75% or more of unwanted particles of 0.3 micrometres in the air. Other types of air purifier work because they contain activated carbon. Activated carbon absorbs chemicals and strong smells (e.g. second hand smoke or gasoline fumes). An air filter that uses activated carbon does not, however, deal with large particles. In this respect, an activated carbon air filter is the reverse of a filtration air purifier. Some types of air filter use electrostatic attraction to clean the air. This type of air filter is also known as an ionizer purifier. This type of air purifier generates ions and releases them into the surrounding air where they bind onto and charge dust particles, etc. Inside the air purifier is a charge plate that has the reverse charge to the ions the air purifier sends out into the air. The ionized particles are attracted to the charge plate, so they are drawn inside the air filter and trapped. There is another type of air purifier, but this is not recommended for home use. This type is an ozone generator. While it is efficient at clearing the air in a dusty or smoky room that hasn?t been occupied, or for cleaning the air throughout a house, the ozone can be harmful to health. While ozone is great in the upper atmosphere for blocking UV rays, it?s not so good up close. This type of air purifier is useful for cleaning the air in a house on a one-off basis (e.g. after a smoking tenant has left) but is not suitable for everyday use. If you?ve been suffering from asthma or allergies, or don?t want to smell the fumes from the highway or that cigarette-puffing neighbour, then an air purifier is a real breath of fresh air.
