Is it Better to Buy in the Suburbs Or Downtown?

Deciding on whether it is better to purchase a home in the suburbs or downtown is a difficult question to answer. Everyone is different and has different wants and needs. While there are benefits and drawbacks to both, it all boils down to what you want.

There are a number of things you will want to take into consideration when deciding on where to live. If you have a family, you are going to want to decide what is best for the entire family. This includes looking at the overall neighborhood, what kind of school system is near, are you going to need access to public transportation and how easy will it be to access it, and what kinds of activities you can do with the family.

The size of the location can be a big determinant as well. Some people get lost in a big crowd while others tend to love the crazy environment. There certainly is a different lifestyle between the suburbs and downtown. And again, it all goes back to what you want.

Another important factor to take into consideration is the cost of the property you are looking at. There tends to be a big distinction in price between the suburbs and downtown. For some people money is simply not an issue. But for the most part, money is certainly something we have to look closely at prior to making any rash decisions.

While it depends on what you want, there are some major distinctions between the two. If you like the night scene and enjoy going to bars and clubs, purchasing a place downtown is the way to go. This tends to be popular amongst the younger crowd and those who are just starting out.

If you are looking to raise a family and settle down, the suburbs are typically a better choice. It is a much calmer environment and tends to be safer as well. While you can never escape crime altogether, living in the suburbs gets the family away from the night scene and crime that occurs.

The suburbs are generally away from the action as well. Downtown is where you will find more amusement parks, sports stadiums, and art galleries. There is a lot more to do downtown and sometimes suburbs are far away from downtown. This can make it difficult to stay active and show the kids a good time. But this is not always the case.

The last thing to take into consideration is where your work is. Many people like to live close to their work for an easy commute. If you have a job downtown, it may be worth it to live downtown or in a suburb close to it.

When it comes to deciding on which is better between the suburbs or downtown, it all boils down to what you want and need. Nobody can answer this question for you. There are benefits and drawbacks to both, and it is vital you take the time to weigh your options.
